I recently watched an episode of the ABC's satirical television show, "The Chasers War on Everything". There was a section on American Televangelists. Now, if you have ever watched any of "the Chaser", then you would know the chaser team takes the mickey out of everyone. This was no exception.
These televangelists were making it out as if they could solve the worlds problems etc. etc. The team also had footage of an "healer" who supposedly grants people healing from God. The chaser team commented that the only thing he was doing was pushing the people over. They figured they could also do this.
Now, as a Christian, what gets me about this sort of behaviour is the fact that it is all centred on humanity. "I" can do this for "YOU!", if God helps me that is. If "YOU" do this then "YOU" will reap a harvest! That is not what Christianity is about at all! Christianity is about bringing Glory to God.
The Chaser team was right to point out the self-centredness of these so-called Televangelists.
These people are not helping the world realize the faith that is Christianity. In indulging their selfish desires for fame, fortune and a desire to help people come to the Lord (I do not deny that they have the right attitude in that respect) they are discrediting all that is Christianity and are being far from helpful in furthering the Kingdom of God!
